Practice at West LA Buddhist Temple

Due to the renovation at the main location, West LA Kendo Dojo is having practices at West Los Angeles Buddhist Temple.

Practice Times

Tuesdays:  7:30pm-9pm (Regular), 9pm-9:45pm (Advanced). Gate opens at 7:30pm and closes at 10:30pm.
Thursdays:  Cancelled due to lack of regular participants.
Saturdays:  6pm-7:30pm (Regular), 7:30pm-8:15pm (Advanced).  Gate opens at 6pm and closes at 9pm.

Practices may end later once we get faster with opening and closing the facility.

Opening and Closing the Facility

Please arrive on time so we can open up the facility.  We needed at least 5  or 6 people to prepare because the tables and chairs weigh a bit more than the ones at JIS.  If we don't have at least 5 or 6 people to prepare, we will be unable to hold the practice that day.

The gates will be opened and closed by WLA Buddhist Temple staff at the exact times listed below.  As a courtesy to the gracious host and their staff, please arrive and leave on time.  All members and guests must leave the parking lot before the gate closure.

Practice Details

• Practice will be held within the kaikan (facility-assembly hall).

• Ladies' changing rooms will be within the upstairs classroom in the main building.

• Men's changing rooms will be within the basement in the main building.

• Restrooms are located in the main building, upstairs.

Why is the Dojo relocating?

Our host, the Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS), will commence renovation starting in May 2023.  

How long will the Dojo practice at West LA Buddhist Temple (WLABT)?

We will practice at WLABT  until the renovations are complete.  The upgrades are estimated to be completed within 18 months.

How close is the WLABT to the JIS?

Thankfully, the new practice location at the WLABT is only 1 block to the north, or about a quarter of a mile.  The WLABT is also located on Corinth Avenue.
